We are planning a trip to South America. My sister is disabled and has a scooter. Before we start any trip, we do a lot of research on handicapped accessibility. The USA, Canada and parts of Europe are no problem but South America? Very little information has been gleaned by us regarding travel there so we will do the research for those who are brave enough, like us, to attempt something so "exotic" as one friend phrased it.
You're going where??? is a typical reaction as he/she looks at my sister sitting in her scooter. South America to most people is The Amazon (no, we're not going there), The Andes (no, we're not going there), Carnivale' in Rio (no, we're not going there), or around Cape Horn (yes, we're going there).
We're not doing anything exotic, really. Flying to Buenes Aires, taking a 3 day side trip to Igazu Falls then getting on a cruise ship and sailing around the Horn to Santiago Chile. Being on a cruise ship is no problem for the scooter sister - it's the rest of the trip that's going to be a challenge.
